Today’s technology has dramatically improved our way of life. We have seen improvements in every conceivable way including computers, communications, microchips and travel. The current technology that has been introduced in our lifetime brings potential fulfillment to numerous prophecies of the Bible.
Computers have made a dramatic impact on our way of life. Just within the last ten years, the computer has gone from a tool only useful for business to an indispensable part of everyday life. A computer that once required a whole room now sets on a desktop. John speaks in Revelation (Rev. 6.2; 13. 1-8) of the Anti-Christ establishing a “One World Government” during the Tribulation period. Computers, with there processing power and speed, will help to make this prophecy a reality. The Internet will also play an essential role in this government as it allows for a universal means of communication and information from among other things.
Radios and televisions are two areas of communication that have greatly enhanced in very recent history. Radios were made of tubes, knobs and wires and were large, bulky boxes. Today you can carry a radio in the palm of your hand. Televisions began with the same concept as radios but with black and white screens for viewing. Today we have televisions that you can wear on your wrist or even hang on your wall. The advances in television have brought numerous around the clock channels with everything from sports to news. Channel selection was limited initially to maybe three where today we have hundreds available at anytime. Revelation (Rev. 11. 7-13) speaks of Two Witnesses for God that appear during the Tribulation. They are allowed to be killed after their work is done, but they are not allowed to be buried. These witnesses are left in the streets of Jerusalem for three and one half days for all nations and people to see. At no other time in history would it have been possible for “all nations and people” to see such an event before ours.
Astounding discoveries are being made in microchips. These chips can be found nearly everywhere from computers to telephones, televisions and radios, to even baby dolls. John also writes in Revelation (Rev. 13. 11-18) about a mark that anyone who wants to buy or sell anything during the Tribulation will be required to take. Only within the past few years has technology given us a viable means to accomplish this task. A company named Applied Digital Solutions’ has perfected an implantable chip that can be used for identification purposes that they call Digital Angel. Just this month, ADS has developed a miniaturized thermoelectric generator. This generator measures a mere half-inch diameter with a ceramic-based power cell that converts low gradient body heat flow into electrical power. This revolutionary device has a variety of potential uses, primarily related to powering wearable or implanted devices in the human body.
Travel is another area that has seen tremendous advances due to recent technology. At the turn of the 1900’s, the automobile was hardly known of, many still traveled by horse and buggy. My daily trip from Gray to Johnson City (approximately fifteen miles) takes about twenty-five minutes each way; this same trip may have taken three to four times longer just one hundred years ago. Airplanes have made traveling great distances achievable in shorter amounts of time. A cross-country trip may take as long as four days driving, one way; this same trip, from coast to coast and back, can be taken now in the same day. The prophet Daniel wrote (Dan. 12. 14) that many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased in the times of the end. This generation travels more and has greater knowledge than at any other generation in history.
Our generation is the first in history to have the technology to fulfill so many prophetic events. There is literally no prophecy in the Bible that can not now be fulfilled. Surely, our Lord will not delay his return much longer. I pray we will all be ready.
